Dinosaur Jr.: “Forget the Swan (Live—The Henry Rollins Show, 2006)”
I’ve been on a Dinosaur kick of late and came across this video. Despite all the plays over the years, the first time I really paid attention to the lyrics was while watching this. I hear it as a folk song about a bucolic psyche gone to seed, a harvest of psychological torment, offered no respite by the neighborly interlude.
I liked the lyrics and was thinking of checking out what else I may have missed when J’s shredding entered at the four-minute mark. In between all of the Jesus Fucks I had to admit that this was what I came for. Not to say the lyrics are worthless, but they function more as a feeling to accompany the Big Muff riffs and squealing overdrive leads. I listen to be decimated and reconstructed by their Triassic sound.
